He is one of the stars of Jackass and the host of Fox Sports Net's 54321 skateboarding show. Acuña has achondroplasia, a type of dwarfism. Born in Pisa, Italy, Acuña grew up in Torrance, California, and attended North High School. He is of Mexican and German descent. He was the subscription manager for Big Brother skateboarding magazine; this connection led to his involvement in the Jackass television series in 2000. Acuña's stunts include skateboarding like an Umpa-Loompa, getting kicked in the head, dressing as a king and rolling Johnny Knoxville down a red carpet staircase, and carrying basketball star Shaquille O'Neal on his back. A recurring gag involves Preston Lacy asking someone to help him with his bags, only for Acuña to appear, causing Lacy to chase him. Acuña appeared in the reality series Armed and Famous in 2007, and in July 2007, Acuña hosted MTV's Scarred Live on TV. Acuña was a contestant in the first season of NBC's Celebrity Circus. In the fourth week of the competition, he became the first contestant to receive a perfect 10-point average score. Acuña finished the season in third place. Acuña is an investor in the Chronic Tacos fast-casual Mexican restaurant chain. The first franchise location opened in Redondo Beach, California, in 2010. After several years of trying to make this location successful, Acuña permanently closed it and opened a Chronic Tacos franchise in Long Beach, California, in February 2018. In 2012, Acuña starred as the main character in the direct-to-video holiday film Elf-Man. This was his first role in a family-friendly feature film. Raised as a military brat, Acuña has done numerous charity tours with the USO. In 2019, he revealed that he sold most of his possessions and decided to live and travel in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van for 11 months.
