Alia Shawkat

Born in Ankara in 1958. Studied at the University for Foreigners of Perugia in 1976 and at the Rome Academy of Dramatic Arts from 1977-80. Became a professional actor at the Berlin Kollektif Theater in Germany from 1980-82 with Vasıf Öngören. Worked at Dostlar, Devekuşu, and Dormen theaters. Started her film career in 1984. Besides acting in films, she translated plays from Italian. She translated 25 plays by Italian writers Dario Fo and Franca Rame into Turkish. Speaking English, German, and Italian, Füsun Demirel's films include A Sip of Love (Bir Yudum Sevgi), Ah Belinda, How Asiye Escapes (Asiye Nasıl Kurtulur), Berdel, Züğürt Ağa, Some Others (Biri Diğerleri), Don't Shoot the Kite (Uçurtmayı Vurmasınlar), Insect (Böcek), Wound (Yara), and Glass Heart (Camdan Kalp).
