Dustin Milligan

Shemar Franklin Moore is an American actor, model, and television host. He is known for his roles as Malcolm Winters on the soap opera *The Young and the Restless* (1994–2005) and Derek Morgan on the CBS crime drama *Criminal Minds* (2005–present). A former model, Moore hosted the music show *Soul Train* from 1999 to 2003. His early years were spent abroad; he was born to an African-American father and a mother of Canadian French and Irish descent. His father was a business consultant and his mother a mathematics teacher. Due to his mother's profession, he moved to Denmark as a baby and to Bahrain at age four. His mother's reasons for moving him abroad included escaping interracial relationships and racism, which were still taboo in the 1970s. Moore returned to the US at age seven, settling in Chico, California, before moving again when his mother took a job at a clinic in Palo Alto, where he finished high school and attended Santa Clara University to study communications. He started modeling to earn money during this period.
