Michael Bay is an American director and producer known for his high-budget action films such as Armageddon, The Rock, Pearl Harbor, Bad Boys, Bad Boys II, and the Transformers series. Born in 1965 in Los Angeles, he was raised by his adoptive parents, Harriet, a child psychiatrist, and Jim, a certified public accountant. After interning for George Lucas, the screenwriter of the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark, Bay decided to pursue a career in directing. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1986 with a double major in English and Film. In the early 1990s, he directed commercials and music videos. In 1995, he directed his first feature film, Bad Boys, which was a box office success. This was followed by a string of highly successful action films including The Rock, Armageddon, and Pearl Harbor. He returned to direct Bad Boys II in 2001. In 2007, he directed the first film in the Transformers series, and subsequently directed four more films in the franchise. He also worked with Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson in the 2013 film Pain & Gain.
