Adrien Brody, an Academy Award-winning American actor born in 1973, holds the record for being the youngest actor to win the Best Actor Oscar. A huge hip-hop fan, Brody plans to become a producer in the field. Born on April 14, 1973, in Woodhaven, Queens, New York, to Elliot Brody, a history professor and painter, and Sylvia Plachy, a renowned photojournalist, his maternal grandmother was Jewish and his mother was a Hungarian Catholic. Frequently appearing in his mother's photographs, Brody became comfortable in front of the camera and decided early on to become an actor. At age 12, he performed magic shows under the name "The Amazing Adrien" at his friends' birthday parties. This talent caught his mother's attention, leading her to enroll him in acting classes. He first attended weekend programs for children at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and later attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City. In 2001, he won the Best Actor Oscar for his role as Wladyslav Szpilman in Roman Polanski's film *The Pianist*. His on-stage kiss of Halle Berry, who presented him with the award, was widely discussed for years.
