Charlotte Lucy Gainsbourg is a French-British singer and actress. Successfully pursuing careers in both music and film, Gainsbourg gained significant attention for her leading role in Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac. The only child of the famed French singer Serge Gainsbourg (1928-1991) and the British model and actress Jane Birkin, Charlotte Gainsbourg was born in London in 1971. Leveraging her artistic family background, she entered the film world at the age of 13 with the film "Paroles et musique." A year later, she garnered attention throughout France with the song "Lemon Incest," featuring her father, and its particularly impactful music video. That same year, she received the César Award for Most Promising Actress for her role in Claude Miller's film "L'Effrontée." Her first English-language film, "The Cement Garden," launched her into the international market, and three years later, her leading role alongside William Hurt in "Jane Eyre" made her a globally recognized actress. In 2017, her performance in "La Promesse de l'Aube" earned her a César Award nomination for Best Actress. Known for her musical talent, Gainsbourg has released a total of four albums, the first in 1986. Fluent in both French and English, she sings in both languages and acts in films, establishing herself as one of the most admired figures in the art world due to her versatility. Gainsbourg has lived with the Israeli-French actor Yvan Attal for many years and has three children: Ben (b. 1997), Alice (b. 2002), and Joe (b. 2011).
