Chris Hemsworth is an Australian actor best known for portraying the Marvel superhero Thor. Born in Melbourne, Australia in 1983, his mother Leonie was an English teacher and his father Craig Hemsworth was a social worker. His brothers, Luke and Liam, are also actors. He rose to fame in Australia through his role as Kim Hyde in the television series Home and Away, which he joined in 2004. He won a Logie Award for Most Popular New Male Talent in 2005 for his work on Home and Away. He starred in the show for three years. His film career began with a role as Captain George Kirk in the 2009 film Star Trek. He solidified his talent with the 2010 film Cash. His most famous role is the mythological superhero Thor, which he first played in 2011, reprising the role in subsequent Thor and Avengers films. In 2012, he starred alongside Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman. He garnered praise for his performance as British Formula 1 champion James Hunt in Ron Howard's 2013 film Rush. In 2015, he starred as whaler Owen Chase in In the Heart of the Sea, and in 2016, he appeared in the Ghostbusters reboot as Kevin, the receptionist. He reprised his role as the Huntsman, Eric, in the sequel The Huntsman: Winter's War. In 2018, he played Captain Mitch Nelson, a special forces soldier, in 12 Strong. He dated Australian actress Isabel Lucas from 2005-2006. He married Spanish actress Elsa Pataky in 2010. They have a daughter, India Rose, born in 2012, and twin sons, Tristan and Sasha, born in 2014.
