Nicolas Cage, born Nicholas Kim Coppola, is an American actor known for his diverse roles in various film genres. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1995. Born in Long Beach, California in 1964, Cage is a member of the Coppola family, known for its prominent filmmakers. His uncle is the renowned director Francis Ford Coppola, his aunt is Talia Shire, and his cousins include Sofia Coppola, Roman Coppola, and Jason Schwartzman. His father, August, was a literature professor, and his mother, Joy, was a choreographer. He has two older brothers, Marc and Christopher, who work as radio hosts. Influenced by his family, Cage pursued acting, graduating from UCLA with a degree in Theater, Film, and Television. He made his film debut in his uncle's 1983 film Rumble Fish. After starting with smaller roles, he achieved his first significant success with the 1984 film Birdy, which won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. He later starred in films such as Peggy Sue Got Married, Moonstruck, and Wild at Heart. His biggest success came with the 1995 film Leaving Las Vegas, where he portrayed Ben Sanderson, a suicidal alcoholic, winning an Oscar and Golden Globe among other awards. In 1997, he starred in two successful action films, Con Air and Face/Off. In 1998, he starred in the romantic film City of Angels opposite Meg Ryan. He received another Oscar nomination for his role as Kaufman in the 2002 film Adaptation. In the 2000s, he appeared in films such as The Weather Man (2005) and Next (2007). In 2007, he played the title role in Ghost Rider and reprised the role in the 2012 sequel. In the late 1980s, Cage had a relationship with actress Christina Fulton, resulting in a son, Weston Coppola Cage, who is both an actor and musician. Cage was married to actress Patricia Arquette from 1995 to 2001. Following his divorce, he married Lisa Marie Presley in 2002, but the marriage ended in divorce two years later. He married Alice Kim, of Korean descent, in 2004. Their son, Kal-El, was born in 2005.
