Jonathan Edward Bernthal, known as Jon Bernthal, is an American actor. He is best known for his role as Shane Walsh in the TV series The Walking Dead. Born in Washington, D.C., he is the son of Joan Lurie and Rick Bernthal. Of Jewish heritage, he has two brothers, Nicholas and Thomas. After leaving Skidmore College, he went to Moscow for acting training. He was discovered while studying at Harvard University's Institute for Advanced Theatre Training and, after graduating, appeared in numerous theater productions. Following roles in films like World Trade Center, Night at the Museum 2, and TV shows such as The Class and Eastwick, he landed the role that would bring him fame. In 2010, he became a main cast member in the first season of The Walking Dead, portraying Shane, significantly expanding his fanbase. In 2013, he starred as Brad Bodnick in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street. He took on more significant roles in films such as Sicario, The Accountant, Baby Driver, and The Punisher. His portrayal of Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, in the Daredevil series and subsequently his own series, The Punisher, earned him further critical acclaim. He married Erin Angle in 2010 and they have three children: Henry (b. 2011), Billy (b. 2013), and Adeline (b. 2015).
