Kathrin Romary, known as Kate Beckinsale, is a British film actress. She gained worldwide fame for her role as Evelyn Johnson in the 2001 film Pearl Harbor. Born in London in 1973, Beckinsale's mother, Judy Loe, and father, Richard Beckinsale, were also actors. She had a half-sister, Samantha, from her father's previous marriage. Kate showed promise in literature and poetry from a young age, winning several awards. She studied Russian and French Literature at Oxford University. Kate Beckinsale started her acting career with TV series before moving to film. She gained attention with 2001's Pearl Harbor, which, despite mixed critical reception, gave her the opportunity to work with Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett, and Jon Voight. Her star truly rose with the Underworld series, starting with the 2003 film in which she played the lead role. She later starred in Van Helsing (2004) and subsequent Underworld sequels. From 1995 to 2003, Beckinsale was in a relationship with actor Michael Sheen, with whom she had a daughter, Lily Mo, in 1999. She married director Len Wiseman in 2004, whom she met during the filming of Underworld.
