James Paul Marsden is an American actor. Born in 1973 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to Kathleen and James Luther Marsden, he had four siblings: Jennifer, Elizabeth, Jeff, and Robert. After graduating from Putnam City North High School, he studied Television Journalism at Oklahoma State University. However, he left school to pursue acting in Los Angeles. In his early years, he had opportunities in various TV series and films. He gained recognition through roles in the hit TV shows Party of Five and Second Noah. Although he didn't have long-lasting roles in either due to various setbacks, these shows opened other doors for him. In 1998, he starred alongside Katie Holmes in the horror film Disturbing Behavior, which, targeting a similar audience to the popular film I Know What You Did Last Summer, fell short of expectations. However, in 2000, he gained a large fan base, mostly young girls, with his role in the film Gossip. His major breakthrough came that same year with X-Men, where he played Cyclops. This successful film, which had good box office results, saw him reprise the role three years later in its sequel. In 2004, he played Lon, Allie's fiancé, in Nick Cassavetes' romantic film The Notebook. In later years, he continued working extensively in both television and film. He was married to Lisa Linde from 2000 to 2011, with whom he had two children. He also had a son in 2012 with Brazilian model Rose Costa.
