Amanda Laura Bynes is an American actress and fashion designer. She is known for her roles in the Nickelodeon series All That and The Amanda Show, and the film Hairspray. Born in Thousand Oaks, California, to Rick Bynes, a dentist, and Lynn Bynes, a dental assistant, her mother is of Canadian Jewish descent. She began acting at a young age, gaining recognition through roles in shows like All That and Figure It Out. At 13, she launched her own television show, The Amanda Show. She graduated from Thousand Oaks High School in 2003. Her roles in films such as Big Fat Liar and What a Girl Wants earned her Kids' Choice Awards. She starred as Holly Tyler in the television series What I Like About You. She received acclaim for her role as Penny Pingleton in the 2007 film Hairspray. After the 2010 film Easy A, she did not act again. During this period, she had several legal issues, including driving under the influence.
