Joshua Daniel Hartnett is an American actor. He rose to fame in the late 1990s with roles in films such as Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, The Faculty, and The Virgin Suicides. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1978 to Daniel Thomas Hartnett and Wendy Anne Kronstedt, he lived with his father, stepmother Molly, and three step-siblings, Jessica, Jake, and Joe. Although he played American football in high school, a knee injury forced him to quit. After graduating high school in Minnesota, he enrolled at SUNY in New York, but left before graduating to move to Los Angeles. He gained attention with a short-lived role in the TV series Cracker as Michael Fitzgerald, and made his film debut in the 1998 horror film Halloween H20: 20 Years Later. Teen films like The Faculty and The Virgin Suicides further boosted his popularity, especially among young audiences. In the 2000s, he began appearing in more serious and high-budget productions. He starred in Pearl Harbor (2001), Black Hawk Down (2003), and Lucky Number Slevin (2006). His performance in Lucky Number Slevin earned him the Best Actor award at the 2006 Milano Film Festival. He also appeared in The Ottoman Lieutenant, released in 2017. Since 2013, he has been in a relationship with British actress Tamsin Egerton, with whom he had a daughter in 2015.
