Chelle Ramos

Engin Cezzar (1935-2017) was a Turkish theater actor and director. Born in Istanbul, his interest in theater began at Robert College. He pursued his passion, studying at the Yale School of Drama and the Actors Studio in America, before becoming a professional theater artist. At 24, he made his debut at the Istanbul City Theatres playing Hamlet, becoming one of the world's youngest Hamlets. He later worked for many years as an actor and director at the Gülriz Sururi - Engin Cezzar Theatre, which he co-founded with Gülriz Sururi. He also worked with Dormen Theatre, Devekuşu Kabare, Istanbul State Theatre, and Antalya State Theatre. He also acted in films and television series, and directed and produced the film *Kaldırım Serçesi*. He appeared in films such as *Sağır Oda* and *Abdülhamit Düşerken*. He directed the operetta *Ayşe Operesi*, written by his wife Gülriz Sururi. A biographical book about him, *Engin Cezzarı Takdimimdir*, exists. After suffering a stroke in 2011, he lived a life confined to bed until his death on January 27, 2017. As per his wishes, no funeral ceremony was held, and his death was announced to the public after his burial. He married fellow theater artist Gülriz Sururi in 1968 and remained married to her until his death, aside from two brief separations.
