Esra Akkaya is a theater and television actress. Born in Istanbul in 1970, she has twin brothers named Kaya and Sarp Akkaya. She began her artistic career in 1983 with the Tevfik Gelenbe Theater. In 1988, she graduated from the Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory. During her studies, she played a role in the play "Büyük Miras" at the Istanbul State Theater. She also worked in the plays "Bedava mı Sandın" and "Prometheus" at the Bakırköy Municipal Theater. Akkaya, who also worked at the Antalya State Theater, has appeared in various TV series and films besides theater. In 1994, her children's play "Bu Masal Bizim," which she wrote, was staged by the Akdeniz Cultures Foundation. She became known for her role as Şirin in the TV series "Mahallenin Muhtarları." She was married to director Kudret Sabancı from 2004 to 2006 and to Harun Uygural from 2009 to 2015. In 2013, she adopted a son named Can Alex Campbell, who is of Ethiopian descent.
