Ümit Aydın Davala is a former football player and coach. He is best remembered for his time playing for Galatasaray. Born in Mannheim, West Germany in 1973, Davala moved to Turkey in 1994, joining Afyonspor after playing in Germany. In the 1995-1996 season, he was transferred to Galatasaray by Fatih Terim, and his performance there made him one of the important players of Turkish football. He played at various positions, including defense, midfield, and forward, but generally played on the right side of midfield. With Galatasaray, he won four league titles, the UEFA Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup in 2000. He also played for the Turkish national team in the 2002 World Cup, where they finished third, having a very successful tournament. He played for AC Milan and briefly for Inter Milan in Italy, returning to Galatasaray on loan in 2003. In 2003, he transferred to SV Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, winning a Bundesliga title and the German Cup. He retired from active football in 2006 at the age of 33 due to injuries. After retiring, he played futsal for a while. He earned 41 caps for the Turkish national team, scoring 4 goals. His most important goal was a header against Japan in the second round of the 2002 World Cup, which secured victory. After his playing career, he served as an assistant coach at Galatasaray and took over as manager of Tuzlaspor in 2017. Davala has also released rap music.
