Dearbhla Molloy

Perry was born and raised in New Orleans to Willie Maxine Campbell and Emmitt Perry, Sr. In 1991, while working an office job, a 1986 episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show inspired him to begin writing. He processed his life experiences by writing letters to himself. He adapted his letters into a play about domestic abuse titled *I Know I've Changed*. Unfortunately, after renting a theater in Atlanta to stage the play, he failed to attract an audience. However, in 1998, he was given a second chance to stage his play and this time was more knowledgeable about marketing. The play then attracted the attention of audiences and producers. Since then, Perry has enjoyed a successful career as a writer, director, actor, and producer.
