Ellen Lee DeGeneres, known as Ellen DeGeneres, is a famous American talk show host, producer, and comedian. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Ellen is the daughter of a speech therapist and an insurance agent. She has a brother, Vance, who is a musician and producer. After graduating high school in 1976, Ellen began studying Communications at the University of New Orleans, but dropped out after a while. She worked many jobs before starting to do stand-up comedy. In the early 1980s, she went on a nationwide tour and was named one of America's funniest people. Although she didn't initially find success in television, she achieved success in 1994 with the sitcom "These Friends of Mine," which later became "Ellen." In 1997, her coming out as a lesbian, both as her character Ellen and in real life, was a significant event in television history. Although her show was canceled due to declining viewership, she started a new show, "The Ellen Show," in 2001, but it was also canceled due to low ratings. In 2003, she finally achieved success with her daytime talk show, "Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show." It won 15 Emmy Awards in its first three seasons.
