Emma Stone, born Emily Jean Stone, is an American actress. She rose to fame with the film *Easy A*, and is known for her roles as Gwen Stacy in *The Amazing Spider-Man* series and Mia Dolan in *La La Land*. Born in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1988, she lived there until age 16. Her father, Jeffrey Charles Stone, was a construction contractor, and her mother, Krista Jean, was a homemaker. She has a brother, Spencer. Stone showed an early interest in acting and singing, performing in local theater groups. In 2004, she moved to Los Angeles with her mother. Initially, her auditions were unsuccessful, and she worked part-time jobs while completing her high school education online. She began her film career in the 2007 teen comedy *Superbad*. In 2008's *The Rocker*, she garnered attention for her role as Amelia, the grumpy bassist in a band. Her role in the 2010 film *Easy A* brought her wider recognition. In 2011, she had a small role in *Friends With Benefits* and starred in *The Help*. In 2012, she starred opposite Andrew Garfield in *The Amazing Spider-Man*, playing Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker's love interest, in both films of the series (2012 and 2014). In 2014, she appeared in Inarritu's award-winning *Birdman*, playing Sam, the daughter of the character played by Michael Keaton. That same year, she co-starred with Colin Firth in Woody Allen's *Magic in the Moonlight*. A year later, she starred opposite Joaquin Phoenix in another Woody Allen film, *Irrational Man*. In 2016, she starred alongside Ryan Gosling in Damien Chazelle's musical *La La Land*, playing Mia Dolan, an aspiring actress. Her performance earned her numerous awards and nominations, including the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival, and Oscars, Golden Globes, and BAFTA awards for Best Actress. In 2017, she portrayed tennis star Billie Jean King in the sports comedy *Battle of the Sexes*, earning a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. In 2018, she co-starred with Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz in Yorgos Lanthimos's *The Favourite*. She was in a relationship with fellow actor and *Amazing Spider-Man* co-star Andrew Garfield from 2011 for several years before they separated.
