Benicio Monserrate Rafael del Toro Sánchez, known as Benicio Del Toro, is a Puerto Rican actor. Born in San Germán, he is the son of Gustavo and Fausta Sánchez Del Toro, both lawyers. He has a brother named Gustavo. Del Toro's childhood was spent in Santurce. At age 9, he lost his mother to hepatitis. Following this, his father returned to their farm in Pennsylvania. At 13, Del Toro was sent to boarding school in Pennsylvania. During those years, he was interested in basketball and the performing arts. In the late 1980s, he appeared in the popular TV series *Miami Vice*, followed by NBC's miniseries *Drug Wars: The Camarena Story*. His first film was *Big Top Pee-Wee* in 1988. After this, he decided to seek supporting roles to pay the bills. In 1989, he starred in *Licence to Kill*. His successful portrayal of a villain at 21 years old impressed both the cast and professional critics. In 1995, he gave a memorable performance as Fred Fenster in Bryan Singer's Oscar-winning film *The Usual Suspects*. His performance in the 2000 film *Traffic* earned him numerous awards, including the Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor. That same year, he appeared in Guy Ritchie's star-studded *Snatch*. His performance in Alejandro González Iñárritu's 2003 film *21 Grams* garnered another Oscar nomination, solidifying his position as one of Hollywood's best character actors. Following *Sin City* in 2005, his portrayal of Che Guevara in Steven Soderbergh's 2008 biographical film *Che* earned him critical acclaim and the Best Actor award (Palme d'Or) at the Cannes Film Festival. He joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Taneleer Tivan/The Collector in *Guardians of the Galaxy*. His role as Alejandro Gillick in Denis Villeneuve's *Sicario* also received positive reviews. He played DJ in the 2017 film *Star Wars: The Last Jedi*. He has a daughter, Delilah, born in 2011, from his relationship with Kimberly Stewart.
