Drew Blyth Barrymore is an American actress who achieved widespread fame at a very young age with her role in the 1982 film E.T. Born in Culver City, California in 1975, she comes from a family with a long history in acting. Her father is John Drew Barrymore and her mother is Jaid Barrymore, of Hungarian descent. Her early entry into the film industry was influenced by both her family background and her proximity to Hollywood. She made her film debut in 1980's *Altered States*. Her role as Elliott's younger sister, Gertie, in Steven Spielberg's *E.T.* (1982) catapulted her to stardom. She was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in *Irreconcilable Differences* (1984). However, her early fame led to numerous personal struggles. She began smoking and drinking at age 9, started using marijuana at 10, and became addicted to cocaine by age 12. This earned her a 'bad girl' image, overshadowing her film roles. As a result, she appeared in few films during the remainder of the 1980s. In 1992, she received another Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film for *Guncrazy*. In 1995, she posed for Playboy magazine. Her role in *Scream* (1995) marked a resurgence in her acting career. Following this, she starred in several successful romantic comedies, including *The Wedding Singer*, *Never Been Kissed*, *50 First Dates*, and *Music and Lyrics*. She also produced and starred in *Charlie's Angels* and *Donnie Darko*. In 2005, she became the inspiration for the film *My Date with Drew*, which documented an amateur filmmaker's attempt to meet her. She won a Golden Globe Award in 2009 for her role in the TV film *Grey Gardens*, her third nomination. That same year, she directed her first feature film, *Whip It*. Later roles include those in *Big Miracle*, *Mixed Nuts*, and *Miss You Already*. In 2015, she published her autobiography, *Wildflower*. Barrymore's personal life has also been tumultuous. She married bar owner Jeremy Thomas at age 19, but the marriage was short-lived. She had a brief marriage to comedian Tom Green from 2001-2002. Her third marriage, to Will Kopelman, lasted from 2012 to 2016. She has two daughters from this marriage, Olive Barrymore Kopelman (b. 2012) and Frankie Barrymore Kopelman (b. 2014).
