Cameron Michelle Diaz is an American actress. Born on August 30, 1972, in San Diego, California, she is the daughter of Emilio Diaz (of Cuban descent) and Billie Early (of English and German descent). She has a sister named Chimene. She graduated from Los Cerritos Middle School and Long Beach Polytechnic High School. At age 16, she signed with Elite Model Management after meeting a photographer at a Hollywood party. Her modeling success led to work in Japan, Australia, Morocco, and Paris, appearances in magazines like Mademoiselle and Seventeen, and campaigns for major companies such as Calvin Klein, Coca-Cola, and Levi's. In 1994, she made her film debut in the action-comedy *The Mask*, starring Jim Carrey. Following *The Mask*, she starred in films like *Head Above Water*, *Feeling Minnesota*, and *She's the One*. In 1998, she starred in *There's Something About Mary*, gaining recognition with this film, which also starred Ben Stiller and Matt Dillon. In 2000, she starred in *Charlie's Angels* alongside Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. In 2001, she provided the voice of Princess Fiona in the acclaimed animated film *Shrek*, reprising the role in subsequent films. She played the role of Julie, Tom Cruise's jealous girlfriend, in *Vanilla Sky*, an adaptation of the Spanish film *Abre los ojos*. In 2002, she appeared in Martin Scorsese's *Gangs of New York*. She also starred in films such as *In Her Shoes*, *The Holiday*, *My Sister's Keeper*, and *What Happens in Vegas*. She worked with Tom Cruise again in *Knight and Day*. Diaz married Benji Madden in 2015 and announced her semi-retirement from acting in March 2018. Her last film roles were in *Annie* and *The Other Woman* in 2014. In 2013, she authored a health and wellness book titled *The Body Book: Feed, Move, Understand and Love Your Amazing Body*.
