Kent Sherwood

Begüm Akkaya is a film, theatre, and television actress. Born in Istanbul in 1991, she studied theatre at Istanbul University State Conservatory. She has appeared in various television series and films. For her role in the 2013 film *Mavi Dalga* (Blue Wave), she won the Ekrem Bora Promising Young Actress Award at the 20th Sadri Alışık Awards. Her role in the 2014 film *Nergis Hanım* (Mrs. Nergis) earned her the Türkan Şoray Promising Young Actress Award at the 21st Adana Golden Boll Film Festival and the Young Witch Award at the Flying Broom International Women's Film Festival. Her father, Dr. Hakan Akkaya, disappeared in 2015 after a ship fire while he was aboard a vessel traveling from Greece to Italy. He has not been heard from since.
