Born in Los Angeles in 1983, Hill's mother, Sharon Lyn, was a costume designer, and his father, Richard Feldstein, managed the touring expenses for Guns N' Roses. His older brother, Jordan Feldstein (1977-2017), was a manager for musical groups and singers. His younger sister, Beanie Feldstein, born in 1993, is also an actress. After studying drama at New School University, he began performing his own plays and shows in New York bars, building a modest following. Through his friendship with Dustin Hoffman's children, he met the Oscar-winning actor and made his film debut in the 2004 film I Heart Huckabees. He later established himself in comedies such as 40-Year-Old Virgin, Superbad, and Knocked Up. In 2008, he was ranked 21st on Entertainment Weekly's '30 Under 30' list. His role in the 2011 film Moneyball, alongside Brad Pitt, showcased his dramatic acting abilities, earning him nominations for Best Supporting Actor at the Golden Globes and Oscars. In 2012, he starred in the comedy-action film 21 Jump Street with Channing Tatum and had a small role in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. In 2013, he appeared alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, earning him a second Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Hill stated he was unfazed by receiving only $60,000 for the role, happy just to be in a Scorsese film. In 2018, he starred alongside Emma Stone in the Netflix series Maniac and made his feature film directorial debut with Mid90s. Jonah Hill cites Woody Allen as an influence.
