Kaan Ertem, born in Istanbul in 1968, received his first recognition in 1983 when his cartoon was published in the Bulvar newspaper, following criticism from the renowned cartoonist Semih Balcıoğlu. For five years, starting in 1988, he honed his cartooning skills, beginning his career at Limon humor magazine. His work subsequently appeared in Leman and L-Manyak magazines. He graduated from Marmara University's Department of Painting and Arts in 1995, but left Istanbul Technical University's postgraduate program before completing it. Ertem's cartoons and comic strips focus on the lives and perspectives of people trapped in city life. His characters represent a broad spectrum of society. Starting in 1992 in Limon, he created "The Teacher and His Son," based on his experiences, portraying a father persistently trying to teach his son life lessons, and an indifferent son. From 1994, his characters Erkut Abi and, starting in 1996, Zıçan Adam, highlight the urge to punish individual and societal mistakes. Another successful recurring character is Erdener Abi, drawn for Leman for many years. He also created the character Ezik Şarkıcı Altuğ for L-Manyak, featuring one-page adventures. He also created a science fiction comic strip, "2001 Feza Fatihleri," serialized in L-Manyak for about a year starting in January 1996. He has three published cartoon albums: "Balanced Nutrition" (1995), "The Teacher and His Son" (1997), and "Erdener Abi" (2001).
