Nicholas Meyer

Doris May Green, known professionally as Doris Roberts (1925-2016), was an American actress. She is best known for her role as Marie Barone, Raymond's mother, in the television sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, for which she won multiple Emmy Awards. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Roberts was raised in the Bronx, New York. Her career began in 1952 with the television series Studio One. She subsequently appeared in numerous television shows in various roles. Doris Roberts achieved worldwide fame and affection for her role in Everybody Loves Raymond, which ran from 1996 to 2005 and consisted of 210 episodes. She passed away on April 17, 2016, at her home in Los Angeles. Roberts married Michael Cannata in 1956; they divorced in 1962. They had one son, Michael Cannata, Jr., born in 1957. In 1963, she married writer William Goyen and remained married to him until his death from leukemia in 1983.
