Matthew Langford Perry, a Canadian-American actor, is best remembered for his role as Chandler Bing in the TV series Friends. Born in Williamstown, Massachusetts, Perry's mother, Suzanne Marie Morrison, was a Canadian journalist, and his father, John Bennett Perry, was an American actor. At the height of Friends' popularity, Perry was also a sought-after leading man, trying his hand at feature films. His romantic life was also closely followed; he had relationships with stars such as Julia Roberts, Selma Blair, and Lizzy Caplan, and also dated Jamie Tarses, who developed Friends and became the first female entertainment president of a major three networks when she joined ABC in 1996. However, he never married or had children. Perry was open about his struggles with alcohol and drug addiction throughout his career. He became addicted to Vicodin following a jet ski accident in 1997 and went to rehab in 2001. He later turned his former Malibu home into a sober living facility called Perry House, which operated until 2015. In 2021, Perry shared that he was sober and had spent an estimated $9 million on staying sober. The actor passed away on October 28, 2023.
