Michelle Lynn Monaghan is an American actress. Born in Winthrop, Iowa in 1976, she is the daughter of Sharon and factory worker Robert Monaghan. She had two older brothers, Bob and John. After graduating from East Buchanan High School, she began studying journalism at Columbia College Chicago. During this time, she also modeled, but left school a year before graduation to pursue her acting dreams. She began to make a name for herself in Hollywood with roles in various television shows and films. In 2005, she gained attention with films like Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. She played Julia Meade in the 2006 film Mission: Impossible III. Productions such as Made of Honor (2008), Eagle Eye (2008), and Source Code (2011) further increased her popularity. In 2014, she played Maggie in the first season of True Detective. She starred in the series The Path, which began in 2016. She returned to the Mission: Impossible franchise with the 2018 film Fallout. Monaghan married Australian graphic artist Peter White in 2005, and they have two children born in 2008 and 2013.
