Mélanie Laurent is a French actress and director. Born in Paris, the daughter of ballet teacher Annick and actor Pierre Laurent, Laurent, who is Jewish, caught the attention of the famous actor Gérard Depardieu by chance on the set of Asterix and Obelix. Guided by Depardieu, without taking acting lessons, Laurent debuted in cinema in 1999 with the film *Un pont entre deux rives*, starring Depardieu. She then appeared in a succession of TV series and films. She won a César Award for Most Promising Actress for her role in the 2006 film *Je vais bien, ne t'en fais pas*.
