Mélanie Laurent is a French actress and director. Born in Paris, the daughter of ballet teacher Annick and actor Pierre Laurent, Laurent, who is Jewish, caught the attention of the famous actor Gérard Depardieu by chance on the set of Asterix and Obelix. Guided by Depardieu, without taking acting lessons, Laurent debuted in cinema in 1999 with the film *Un pont entre deux rives*, starring Depardieu. She then appeared in a succession of TV series and films. She won a César Award for Most Promising Actress for her role in the 2006 film *Je vais bien, ne t'en fais pas*. Her international recognition came through her role as Shosanna Dreyfus in Quentin Tarantino's 2009 film *Inglourious Basterds*. In 2011, she directed her first feature film, *Les adoptés*. In 2013, she appeared in films such as *The Players*, *Night Train to Lisbon*, and *Enemy*. She continued her career acting in films like *Aloft* and *By the Sea*. In 2018, she directed her first English-language film, *Galveston*. In 2005, Laurent began a relationship with actor Julien Boisselier, which lasted several years. She married in 2013 and gave birth to a son, Leo, the same year.
