The injustices surrounding the shooting death of 15-year-old Latasha Harlins in a South Central Los Angeles store in 1992 became a focal point of the Los Angeles riots. While the Black community poured their profound grief onto the streets, Latasha's friends and family privately mourned the life of a vibrant child whose story never fully made the headlines. Nearly thirty years later, director Sophia Nahli Allison's documentary, A SONG FOR NATASHA, reclaims Latasha from the context of her death, reconstructing an archive of a promising life lost. Oral history and memories from Latasha's best friend and cousin coalesce in a dreamlike portrait showcasing the impact a short but magnificent life can have.
