Inspired by the life and works of Sayat Nova, an Armenian folk poet of the 18th century, The Color of Pomegranates, while not directly depicting the poet's life events, conveys his emotions through a highly symbolic and colorful narrative with minimal dialogue. Banned for many years in the Soviet Union, the film features Georgian actress Sofiko Chiaureli in the lead role, portraying numerous different characters within the same film.
