General Information
Three Lives, directed by the master of Iranian cinema Jafar Panahi, won Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival and Best Film at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival. The film uses the popularity of social media in Iran as a springboard to examine the unrest in the art world and Iranian society. Panahi plays himself, a director who receives a message from a girl who committed suicide because her family forbade her from acting. Filmed on the Iran-Turkey border in Azeri-speaking villages, his ancestral home, the film follows Panahi as he receives the girl's message via a video on Instagram. He relays this message, as requested by the girl, to famous film star Behnaz Jafari. Jafari and Panahi are unsure if the suicide video is a joke or the last images of a deceased girl. They set out to find the girl's family.
