Mason, an insurance agent by day and a skilled painter by night, believes he murders the women he paints. The film follows his descent into paranoia and self-doubt as he grapples with his possible guilt. The twist ending reveals that Mason never actually killed anyone; his paintings are hyperrealistic depictions of news stories about unsolved murders, and his paranoia is a manifestation of his deep-seated guilt over his voyeuristic obsession with violence and his inability to connect with people on a genuine level.
