Belgian filmmaker Lukas Dhont made his feature film debut in 2018 with *Girl*, a story inspired by Nora Monsecour, a transgender girl pursuing a career as a ballerina. *Girl* premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Caméra d'Or and the Queer Palm awards. It subsequently received the André Cavens Award for Best Film from the Belgian Association of Film Critics (UCC) and was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards. At the 9th Magritte Awards, it received nine nominations and won four awards, including Best Flemish Film and Best Screenplay. Dhont's 2022 film, *Close*, shared the second prize, the Grand Prix, with Claire Denis' *Stars at Noon* at the 75th Cannes Film Festival.
